Enjoy the 6th Annual Theater Weekend in San Diego, Feb 14-16, 2020!
Please join me for our next winter theater weekend in San Diego, 14-16
February, 2020. The program is designed not only for Yale alumni but for anyone
else interested in high-quality theater around the country.

This weekend is a 48-hour theatrical immersion starting at 3 pm on Friday,
February 14 and ending after a wine-and-cheese group review of the Sunday
matinee. The program begins with my introduction to the Friday evening play,
Jitney, the 1970s chapter of August Wilson’s ten-play Pittsburgh chronicle of 20thcentury
African American history and experience. It will be staged at the
renowned Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park. A group dinner at our hotel is
included. Saturday morning, 9:30-11:30, is given to a group review of Jitney,
followed by my lead-in to an evening performance of a dramatization of Isak
Dinesen’s novella Babette’s Feast, at the Lamb’s Players Theatre on Coronado
Island. Sunday morning, 9:30-11:30, begins with a group review of the previous
evening’s production followed by my preface to our afternoon performance of The
Great Leap, Lauren Yee’s pertinent and funny play about an American college
basketball team’s fixture in Beijing. (Lauren, now an established playwright, is a
Yale College graduate who took two of my courses!) This 2018 work will be
staged at the very welcoming Cygnet Theatre right across the street from our hotel.
Our hotel will again be the Hacienda (Best Western Plus), a charmingly informal
and spectacularly sited “village” on the edge of Old Town and its Mexican cuisine.

The charge for the program, including single room occupancy, is $1,265 per
person. Double occupancy is discounted to $1,065 per person. For those not
requiring hotel accommodation, the cost is $890 per person. These are total prices.
(Theater tickets will be discounted for those with subscriptions to any of our theaters.)

Included are:
• Friday and Saturday night hotel accommodation as needed
• Saturday and Sunday breakfast for hotel guests, and light refreshments
at meetings
• Friday dinner
• scripts of three plays for reading in advance
• three introductory presentations by Professor Biggs
• tickets to three performances
• van service to and from theaters as necessary
• lively group discussion, seminar style
• a visit from an actor in, or the director of, one of our productions.

A non-refundable deposit of $200 per person secures a place on the program, first
come first served, with balance due by January 15. Cancellation not later than
January 31 will earn a refund of 50% of the total cost. After January 31 no refund
is possible. The deposit itself is not returnable. Checks should be made out to
Educational Theater Weekends and mailed to 36 Morse St, Hamden, CT 06517(Attn: Lita Wright).

All payments will be acknowledged by email.
