The Yale Day of Service (http://yaledayofservice.org/) is fast approaching on Saturday, May 11th

If you are involved in a charitable organization, in any capacity, or have always wanted to partner with a certain organization in LA, now is your chance to show off your volunteering aplomb!  

Hosting entails: (1) registering the site, (2) reaching out to volunteers (the Club helps with that too), and (3) serving as a liaison between the organization and Yale alumni, family and friends. There's really no downside and it is a great opportunity to give back to the community beyond just volunteering at the Day of Service.

Here is a list of the service sites in Los Angeles: 

Culver City: Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook Habitat Restoration - We will be helping to restore and maintain one of the last coastal sage scrub communities in the area. We will be weeding and planting native plants; tools will be provided.

Los Angeles: Foster Care Awareness Month Event: Help foster youth succeed in the workplace - The Yale Day of Service is pairing up with The RightWay Foundation, a non-profit that guides young adult Foster Youth toward self-sufficient, stable lives through job placement and counseling. Yale volunteers will help prepare transition-age foster youth for their first jobs. 

Los Angeles: Reading to Kids - First-time volunteers participate in a training session about reading aloud to children. Returning volunteers review the books and develop topics of discussion and craft ideas. Children are signed in by teachers and administrators, and the fun begins at 10:00 a.m. The children are divided into several small groups by grade level.

Los Angeles: The Architect is IN - For this Yale Day of Service event, Yale-affiliated architects in various cities across the US and internationally will serve local non-profit organizations who are in need of architecture, planning, and design services. 

Los Angeles: Wolf Connection - Forest Clean Up-  Join us on May 11th and be a steward of the wolves and this sacred land. Volunteers will remove weeds from animal habitats, meet a few four-legged ambassadors, learn about our mission, and receive a tour of the facility.
