The MIT Sloan Alumni Club of Boston is driven by a team of enthusiastic volunteers. Our events and activities, both small and large, are conceived of and organized by our alumni community. We depend on YOU to make us successful.
We frequently get asked, "So, how can I help?" Here are some options:
Organize a back to the classroom or other continuous learning event: To do this you will select a topic and present it to the VP of small events for approval. You will then draft your speakers, work with us to select a good date and location and price, write up a marketing description and work with us to get it onto our calendar, into our newsletter and onto our website. We have a lot of experience in organizing these type so events and will help you along the way.
Organize a social event: Present your proposal to the board for approval. This is typically done over the phone to a single member who will present it to the board at the next meeting or conference call. Once it is approved, we will work with you to determine pricing and incorporate your event into our marketing materials. You will be responsible for organizing the event, reserving the event space, travel logistics if needed, and acting as overall event chair.
Assist with club and event marketing: Become an evangelist for our club and help us build our name and market recognition. Help write our newsletter or develop content for our website. We need bloggers and photographers to come to our events and help us tell our story.
Recruit and manage club sponsors: Ideally, a sponsorship provides a benefit to both organizations by defraying some of the costs of our events or by providing our members with valuable discounts or other benefits, while providing market recognition to our sponsors. Market recognition may be in the form of offering our sponsor’s executives with speaking opportunities at our small or large events or the relationship may help to generate new business for the sponsor organization. In this role, you will be in regular contact with our sponsor companies and will make sure that the relationship continues to provide value to both organizations.
Recruit and manage club partners: Partners are similar to sponsors, but they are typically not-for-profit organizations. Partner organizations help us by marketing our events to their members and providing events that may be of interest to our members. Partner organizations may co-organize an event with us or may provide speakers for our events. Volunteers in this role often are members of both organizations or are simply interested in helping to nurture these relationships.
Get involved with our large events: Are you interested in Finance or IT? Want to work with executives and thought leaders in one of these areas? If so, help to organize the MIT Sloan CFO Summit in the fall or the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium in the spring. Organizers of large events typically start work about 8 months prior to the next event and need help recruiting and managing event sponsors, developing and executing event marketing plans, helping to build the event websites, providing content for our event websites, organizing speaker panels, managing event logistics and providing overall even project management. For more information about these events, go to their websites at www.mitcfo.com or www.mitcio.com.
